Steve McLaurin Inducted into Mississippi Poultry Hall of Fame

In 2023, Steve McLaurin, Peco’s special projects manager, became the 37th inductee into the Mississippi Poultry Hall of Fame. A 45-year veteran of the poultry industry, McLaurin has been an integral part of Peco for nearly two decades, playing a key role in the development of sustainable practices across our live operations.

Growing up on a farm in Jones County, Mississippi, McLaurin’s upbringing is intertwined with the poultry industry. After earning his degree in poultry science from Mississippi State University, he began his career in May 1979. McLaurin’s journey through various roles in live operations, hatcheries, rendering plants and more led him to join Peco in 2005.

“Peco is unlike anywhere else I’ve worked,” McLaurin remarked. “It’s a place where everyone is treated like family, and where you feel part of something bigger than yourself. The reason I am where I am today is because of the opportunities Peco has given me and the incredible people I’ve had the privilege to work alongside.”

In addition to his induction into the Mississippi Poultry Hall of Fame, McLaurin has been widely recognized for his dedication to the industry. In 2020, he was selected as one of Mississippi State University’s College of Agriculture and Life Science Distinguished Alumni Fellows for the Poultry Science Department. Serving on the Mississippi Poultry Association Board for over 20 years, he was chairman in 2009, 2015 and 2020. “When you look at the other 36 inductees, it’s humbling to think of a country boy from Jones County among CEOs, doctors and department heads who have made major decisions to shape our industry,” said McLaurin. “But my dedication has always been to the state of Mississippi, and I am immensely proud to receive this honor.
