Peco Foods, Inc. is seeking an Maintenance Superintendent for our Feather Lane further processing plant in Canton, MS.

Position Summary:

The Maintenance Superintendent will be responsible for managing the day to day operations of the Maintenance Department under the direction of the Maintenance Manager.

Essential Functions of Position:

  • Duties:
    • Maintain a Preventative Maintenance Program that will assure machinery, grounds and buildings are kept in working condition, meeting or exceeding regulatory compliance, e.g. USDA, GMP’s OSHA, environmental etc.
    • Maintain a Preventative Maintenance Program that will assure machinery, grounds and buildings are kept in working condition, meeting or exceeding regulatory compliance, e.g. USDA, GMP’s OSHA, environmental etc.
    • Support Production Operations by determining work priorities and scheduling repair, maintenance, and installation of machines, tools and equipment.
    • Manage the department budget within approved limits, monitor and recommend cost saving and standardization methods.
    • Identify and implement cost reduction opportunities in conjunction with operating teams.
    • Supervise maintenance department personnel in day-to-day operation to insure minimal downtime and costs and optimal accountability, productivity, and efficiency.
    • Assure an accurate and effective parts inventory is maintained.
    • Hire and develop a well-skilled maintenance staff.
    • Establish and maintain proper employee motivation, discipline, and standards.
    • Establish and enforce Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) to regulate the maintenance function within the processing plant.

  • Supervisory Responsibilities:
    • Direct responsibility for 20-35 exempt and/or non-exempt, maintenance support staff.

    • Limited travel

Qualifications for Position:

  • Skills and Abilities:
    • Knowledge of thermal processing and other food processing systems.
    • Specific experience with bread and batter equipment a plus.
    • Knowledge of regulatory requirements, especially those governing the food industry and a thorough understanding of the required support for maintaining utility function, such as various refrigeration/freezing system, boilers, HVAC, PLC controls etc.
  • Education and Experience:
    • High School Graduate required.
    • 4 year College Degree in Industrial Maintenance or similar discipline preferred.
  • Other Qualifications:
    • Experience in a food manufacturing or similar environment strongly preferred.
    • 3 – 5 years’ experience managing 5 or more employees with responsibility across multiple shifts.
    • Uses appropriate interpersonal styles and methods to inspire and guide individuals toward goal achievement, modifies behavior to accommodate tasks, situations, and individuals involved. Effectively manages conflict.
    • Knowledge of thermal processing and other food processing systems.
    • Specific experience with bread and batter equipment a plus.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements, especially those governing the food industry and a thorough understanding of the required support for maintaining utility function, such as various refrigeration/freezing system, boilers, HVAC, PLC controls etc. •Excellent written and verbal communication skills. High level of interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient computer skills to include:
    • Hands on knowledge of PMMS systems and the financial and maintenance planning capabilities. Specific knowledge of MP System preferred.
    • Familiarity with CAD strongly preferred i.e. ability to open CAD drawings and make minor changes.
    • Microsoft applications
  • Demonstrated high level of organizational skills.
  • Resolves routine problems with discrepancies that arise while performing daily tasks.
  • Manages multiple tasks and projects simultaneously and prioritizes work accordingly.
  • Applies basis reasoning skills and carries out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
